Humane Society Silicon Valley provides compassionate pet aftercare services in San Jose, CA.
On New Years Day, 1/1/26 our 17 year old dog passed away at 5am. We had planned to put him down on 1/2 but he didn't make it. We were frantic trying to find a hospital that would take him in for us to perform cremation. Our Vet in Berkeley was closed as were all other hospitals near us. My Mom has been fostering kittens and puppies through the humane society in Milpitas for years and reached out to her contact there. They immediately told us to bring our dog in. With a small holiday staff they seamlessly walked us through the paperwork and cremation options. They were absolutely amazing, and treated us with care and compassion. Thank you so, so much to your wonderful staff.
First of all humane society is trying their damn’st to keep up with customer service, the reason for the struggle is the laundry fire that took place approximately around this year that has cost the humane society half it’s building any intelligent person would realize the shortage in staff and resources it take to run a center or facility at half its capacity when you make really insensitive comments about the Humane Society not running to its full capacity it’s basically an ignorant comment on what is actually going on. People need to be respectful of the fact that they’re trying their best. It’s incredibly insensitive and childish to comment like, "They couldn’t help me." There’s not enough staff, and I wasn’t gonna adopt and give them money today. Well, to be honest with you. I had a good experience. I just adopted a tripod cat from the Humane Society. The experience was good. If I’m gonna be honest, I was there for maybe two hours, but that was because they were trying to see and help all the people who came to visit and adopt that day. We went during the week of Christmas; in fact, having the staff help and see us at that time was quite accommodating. We were appreciative of their help and of the information they provided about our new cat, including the health history and anything we needed to know before adopting. If you come to the Humane Society, you shouldn’t set your expectations too high. They are short-staffed, trying their best, and have helpful volunteers to support you and help you get acquainted with your new pet. Donations allow them to contribute to the repairs and rehabilitation needed to reopen the center at full capacity. You have to remember that these places rely on public funding and community support. We are not here for them to cater to us. If you want a cat or a dog, go to a breeder if you’re looking to find your forever pet. Then this is the place for you.
This was my first time here.after my Chihuahua pass away, I used their cremation services with were offered at a very affordable price. Nice building with kind staffs. Saw many lovely animals. Will come visit next time. 👍👍👍
I come to this location all the time to just browse and see all the cats/kittens but unfortunately today was much different. I was about 30 minutes into my visit and enjoying my time with this little gray kitten who was very interested in me as I was him and I look up to see one of the volunteers an older lady with large curly hair knocking on the door. She then proceeds to ask me if I will be adopting. I found this odd because every time I’ve visited I’ve never had a staff member interrupt me in such a way. I hesitate to answer because I was seriously considering adopting the sweet boy. Unfortunately I just don’t have the space yet. I tell her no and she proceeds to tell me that if I’m not going to adopt that I have to leave so others can look. I reluctantly leave the kitten and his corner. It broke my heart because there have been times where I sat with cats for upwards of 40 minutes and no one has ever had a problem or told me to leave. After that I thought maybe I could just sit with another kitten only to find the same volunteer glaring at me. The whole experience made me feel extremely unwelcome. I may also note that in the check in survey when you first enter I did note down that I was just browsing but it really didn’t feel like I was allowed to after that encounter. It seemed very money hungry. If I wasn’t going to spend money and adopt then I had to leave.
Had a great experience getting our dog but have had some issues since, it seems like the different depts (adoption/medical) don’t talk to each other at all. We left with our dog after being told it was a trial adoption and that they would cover bills in the trial period but then like a week later they said they had no record of that (we had it in our paperwork). Then they told me my dog didn’t need the second round of a vaccine in the clinic and then claimed that’s not true when I asked for a record. The people are so nice they truly just need a better information system or something
