San José Animal Care Center provides compassionate pet aftercare services in San Jose, CA.
I adopted my dog here nearly a year ago, and i couldn’t be more grateful. She has been such a well behaved dog, and truly the most loving dog i’ve ever come across. The adoption process was so easy, they even let us foster to adopt so we had time for her to meet our cat in case things didn’t work out, thankfully they did and we adopted her for 20$. My only complaint is the lack of medical history. Our dog lost her eye a year/ two years ago according to them and they weren’t sure on the time frame which was weird to me. Other than that, i highly recommend.
A few days ago I took in my neighbors ILLEGAL ROOSTER which came into my backyard because he doesn't keep his HUNDREDS OF CHICKENS and MULTIPLE ROOSTERS in cages. A few weeks before that I took in a chicken. They squawk and crow all damn day! I live in downtown not in the country! They literally come over my fence and walk on my roof and stink up the air, I cannot even breathe in peace. I get thousands of flies in my front and backyard. It's a living hell and my quality of life is non-existent. Animal Control does NOTHING about this hell hole of a neighbor. I have been calling them for YEARS and for years they've done nothing. And there's an extremely rude lady that answers the phone, she interups you and doesn't let you finish a sentence. She gets off on making you feel like crap and like a bother to her and Animal Control
I have stray cats in my neighborhood. I feed them and they use my yard like a cat box. San Jose Animal care had helped me get them fixed and has been taking care of one of the sick babies. They really are great there.
I have a mixed feeling about this place. I got my first cat here, and she’s probably my last cat. The adoption was easy and quick. But they didn’t really tell you the current health conditions of the animal. However they do have a medical history record on each animal that they’ll give when you bring your pet home. I should’ve asked and checked it before agreeing to adopt. Long story short, my cat was very sick in guts. That kind of sickness is not what you can tell from the outside physically. I’ve done my best for the past two months and she was getting worse. I was so frustrated and stressed and also struggling with what to do as being a first time cat parent. They made it look like impossible to return the animal. At some point I finally decided to send her back for my mental sanity. They charged me 80 bucks for “surrendering” the animal because it’s more than 30 days of adoption. They posted her profile on their website for adoptable cat shortly after I returned her without changing any description or discoursing her health. Everything was just as what I read 2 months ago. Then later that evening, her ad was gone. There was no way people adopted her that quickly in a normal weekday. I often wonder what they’ve done to her. I really miss the cat but also regret to adopt her in the first place.
My first time adopting a pet here and it was very heart warming and I love the community atmosphere. I’ve followed this shelter on instagram for a while as they are very active and posting available pets for adoption. We came across a few dogs we were interested in adopting on pet compass and met a few before our hearts were set with Sookie. Adoption process was very quick and they sent us home with a toy (which she destroyed), kibble, collar + leash. Everyone here is very kind and you can tell that staff + volunteers honestly like to be here. I know they can get overwhelmed with many animals coming through their shelter but I truly believe they do their best with what they have. I love that SJ has such a strong community and do their best to give back as much as possible.
