Animal Memorial Service provides compassionate pet aftercare services in San Jose, CA.
AMS fulfilled all of my requested aftercare for our beloved cat. The shipment was carefully packaged and arrived in perfect condition. We got our complimentary paw print and inscription for his urn. They had every single item labeled with my cats name which gave me confidence that everything was done correctly.
As you can see from some of the negative reviews, their operation seems to have some problems. They were kind to me, though. I ordered cremation through my vet. I called Animal Memorial Service three times over three days to arrange for the paw prints and change the urn. Every time, they told me I needed to call the next day since the order was not yet in their system, so I did. I also sent an email to ensure my requests were clear. What they told me next was that they had cremated him—no paw prints. He arrived later than my call, and his cremation happened first thing in the morning, even before they started working, so they couldn't intervene, they explained. They are warm and kind, but I wouldn't recommend expecting them to handle anything more complex than the basic orders. It may be too harsh, or perhaps it was simply unfortunate, but you don't want to fail on this, like I did, so it's best to set your expectations low and prepare for the worst. Bring your beloved pet yourself and arrange everything at check-in. Some reviews said the opposite, but I hope, from my experience, they'll walk you through the options with compassion and kindness. Things are tough while grieving; I wish you the best in making it.
Imagine having to decide that your 14 year old basset hound is in so much pain that euthanasia is the only answer. Then imagine finding out that his remains were "stolen" at the cremation facility. Then given a $325 check in the mail without any letter of explanation. Needless to say, we took them to court and received a settlement. While I was hoping to feel some closure, the court case made me feel worse. All we wanted were his ashes. And still to this day, there is no follow up. On the company website, it states that its mission is "to make [clients] feel comfortable and confident regarding [their] cherished pet's afterlife care and how to best honor their memory." This couldn't have been any further from the truth. This happened back in March of 2023
We are devastated by the sudden death of our 18 month old puppy, but so grateful for the caring services of AMS. Our vet, Modern Animal, uses their services, and Kobe came back home to us in the most carefully packed manner. The added paw print tag is priceless, and help soften the pain of our loss. Thank you.
We used this business twice — once last year for one of our pets, and most recently for our 14 lb dog who passed away. We paid for private cremation both times, but after our most recent experience, we’re left heartbroken and full of doubt about whether either pet was actually cremated alone, as promised. The communication was inconsistent, vague, and unhelpful. We had to reach out multiple times just to get basic information. We specifically asked for our dog’s titanium leg implant to be returned — something that survives cremation — and never received confirmation or follow-through. All we got was a phone call the day he was cremated, saying they weren’t able to find the “metal implant.” We wondered why, when it was a titanium rod implant that was placed in his right leg. They couldn’t give us any further information, just that they couldn’t find it or saw one after he was cremated. After a week, we haven’t received anything else about his ashes and called them. They told us they were trying to look for his metal implant - when we kept informing them that it’s a titanium rod that was placed in his right leg and still could not provide us any further explanation how they weren’t able to locate it, and made us wonder if they even cremated the right dog. In such an emotional and vulnerable time, what we needed was compassion, transparency, and professionalism. Instead, we were left with uncertainty and frustration, which has made our grief even harder to carry. We hope this business reexamines how it handles private cremations and communication with grieving families. When you trust someone with your pet’s final care, you deserve peace of mind — not lingering doubt.
